WH Questions

WH questions are very common in English. The lesson below shows you how to use them correctly. You can find the exercises at the bottom of the page.

Let’s get started with the lesson. 

WH questions ask for information. Here are the six questions and their answers:

Question	Answer	Example
What	Thing	What is your name?
When	Time	When is the party?
Who	Person	Who is your brother?
Where	Place	Where is the bank?
Why	Reason	Why do you like pizza?
How	Directions	How do you spell your name?

WH Questions Structure

WH questions in the simple present use “do” or “be”. Take a look at the structure for each of these verbs.

Do

WH   +   DO/DOES   +   SUBJECT    +   VERB

Take a look at some examples:

·         Where do you work?

·         When does she wake up?

·         Who is your brother?

Be

WH   +   BE    +    SUBJECT

Here are the examples:

·         Where are you from?

·         Who is that man?

·         When is your class?

Open and Closed Questions

In English you will find two main types of questions: open and closed. Closed questions have simpe answers with few options. Open questions have many options.

WH Questions are similar to  YES/NO questions, but they have WH words at the start. Let’s look at an example of a yes/no question:

·         Are you from Canada?

Now, take a look at similar question, but with a WH word:

·         Where are you from?

The first question had an answer of yes or no (Yes, I am from Canada). The second question could have many different answers (Japan, Brazil, Poland, etc.). This is the difference. One is open and the other is closed.

Here are some example questions and answers:

·         Where are you from?

·         I am from India.

·         What is your name?

·         My name is Jacob.

·         When do you wake up?

·         I wake up at 7:30 am.

·         Why are you angry?

·         I am angry because I did not pass my exam.

EJEMPLOS:

·         I always have corn flakes for breakfast.
Siempre como copos de maíz para el desayuno.

·         They usually spend the summer in the mountains.
Ellos por lo general pasan el verano en las montañas.

·         We frequently water our garden when it's hot.
Con frecuencia regamos nuestro jardín cuando está caluroso.

·         You often dine at Peter's, don't you?
¿Usted a menudo cena en lo de Peter, verdad?

·         Ben sometimes goes to the theater.
Ben a veces va al teatro.

·         Janet occasionally visits her parents.
Janet de vez en cuando visita a sus padres.

·         Mrs. Hills rarely leaves home after 10:00 p.m.
La Sra. Hills raramente se marcha de su casa después de las 22hs.

·         Mr. Robins seldom drives at night.
El Sr. Robins rara vez conduce por la noche.

·         Oliver hardly ever buys new clothes.
Oliver casi nunca compra la nueva ropa.

·         They never go hiking.
Ellos nunca van de excursión.

                                       

·          REGLAS PARA LA COLOCACIÓN DE LOS ADVERBIOS DE FRECUENCIA EN INGLÉS

·         ADVERBIO DE FRECUENCIA DESPUÉS DEL SUJETO Y ANTES DEL VERBO: En todas las oraciones el adverbio de frecuencia se coloca después del sujeto y antes del verbo, excepto cuando el verbo principal es un verbo modal o el verbo to be.

·         ADVERBIO DE FRECUENCIA DESPUÉS DEL VERBO TO BE O UN VERBO MODAL: En las oraciones en las que el verbo principal sea el to be o un verbo modal, el adverbio de frecuencia se coloca después de estos.

·         ADVERBIO DE FRECUENCIA AL PRINCIPIO DE UNA ORACIÓN: Los adverbios de frecuencia sometimes, usually y ocasionally, además de seguir las reglas anteriores, pueden ir al principio de la oración.

·         NOTA

·         1) Si la oración es afirmativa o interrogativa, el adverbio irá entre el sujeto y elverbo principal:

·         I hardly ever drink beer – Casi nunca bebo cerveza

·         Does she often snore at night? – ¿Ronca (ella) a menudo de noche?

·         2) Ten en cuenta que en las negaciones, el adverbio va entre el verbo auxiliar y el verbo principal:

·         I don’t often go to visit my grandmother –No voy a visitar a mi abuela a menudo

*Vayan avanzando en su proyecto de periodo les  doy las pautas:

Fecha de entrega: Dos semanas antes de finalizar el periodo

Modo de evaluación: Presentación y exposición de la revista cómic, cada estudiante lee en Inglés y en Español su cómic y se califica la ´presentación del mismo a full color tanto portada como contenido.

Tamaño de la revista cómic; 21 cms de ancho por 28 cms de  alto

Distribución:  Cada pagina tendrá 4 recuadros por hoja donde va cada escena del cómic, en total serán 20 paginas con 4 recuadros por página para un total de 80 recuadros. Cada recuadro deberá tener buen contenido en Inglés y los cómics muy bien dibujados.

RECUERDEN QUE:

El súper héroe del cómic es USTED mismo dibujado como usted quiera hacerlo, USTED es un súper héroe y se dibuja el atuendo o las características que desee, el tema de su historieta es libre, vamos a poner a volar la imaginación
