Uso de There is/ There are

La construcción "There is/There are" es una forma de construir oraciones impersonales equivalente en español a "hay (existe)". Lo vemos mejor con un ejemplo:

There is a dog

Hay un perro

Forma	Significado
There is	Hay (singular)
There are	Hay (plural)

En singular:

AFIRMATIVA

There is a cat

Hay un gato

En plural:

There are two cats

Hay dos gatos

Interrogación

Para formar la interrogación tenemos de invertir el sujeto y el verbo:

is there? / are there?

Lo vemos con ejemplos:

Is there a cat?

¿Hay un gato?

Are there two cat?

¿Hay dos gatos?

Negación

La forma típica de formar la negación es añadiendo el adverbio "not":

There isn't a shop here [Recordatorio: isn't = is not]

No hay una tienda aquí

Otra forma de negar es utilizando el adjetivo "no":

There is no shop here 

No hay ninguna tienda aquí

HOW MANY AND HOW MUCH (Cuantos, cuantas)

How Many

How many significa "¿cuántos?" pero sólo se usa para sustantivos contables.

How many car do you have?

¿Cuántos coches tienes?

How Much

How much tiene el significado de "¿cuántos?" pero sólo con sustantivos incontables.

How much money do you need to retire?

¿Cuánto dinero necesitas para dejar de trabajar?

Ejemplos con How many y How much:

• 1.   How many eggs do you need for the cake? (¿Cuántos huevos       necesitas para el pastel?)
• 2.   How many candles do you need for the cake? (¿Cuántos velas       necesitas para el pastel?)
• 3.   How many bedrooms are there in the apartment? (¿Cuántas         habitaciones hay en el departamento?

• 4.     How much milk do I have to buy? (¿Cuánta leche debo comprar?)
  
• 5.    How much sugar do you eat daily? (¿Cuánta azúcar comes diariamente?)
  
• 6.   How much water do I have to drink when I exercise? (¿Cuánta agua debo   tomar    cuando me ejercito?)
  

THERE IS / ARE + SOME AND ANY

There is y there are continúan significando: (HAY), pero, como ya estudiamos, THERE IS es para singulares y THERE ARE para plurales. Ahora le agregamos SOME y ANY que significan: (ALGO, ALGUNOS, ALGUNAS)

Ejemplos:

AFIRMATIVO

1. There are some people in the office (Hay algunas personas en la oficina)

2. There are some teacher at school   (Hay algunos profesores en el colegio)

3. There is some milk in the fridge        (Hay algo de leche en el refrigerador)

NEGATIVO

1. There isn’t any freezer in the kitchen.  (No hay ningún congelador en la cocina)

2. There isn’t any money in my wallet.”   (No hay ningún ningún dinero en mi billetera)

3. There aren’t any students at school   (No hay ningunos estudiantes )

INTERROGATIVA

1. Is there any toilet on this train?”            (Hay algún baño en éste tren?)     
        

2. Is there any time to go shopping?”        (Hay algún tiempo para ir de compras?)

3. Are there any trains to London this morning?   (Hay algún tren para Londres ésta mañana?)
